Our Maldives Honeymoon

We got married on a Saturday and that following Monday morning we left for our honeymoon! We used https://perfecthoneymoons.com to plan our Honeymoon and specifically Gretchen (Places2travel@cox.net) was the one who we worked with. She did an incredible job and we highly recommend her! She planned each and every detail down to the limo service we took from San Diego to LAX for our flight to Dubai and more that I’ll get into below. It made our trip completely seamless!

A short 36 hours after we got married, we left for our honeymoon. It was Monday morning and we took a car service to LAX. Thank goodness, because there was no way we had the energy to drive to LA and deal with parking after a crazy wedding weekend! We then took a flight on Emirates to Dubai. Emirates is a really cool airline to travel on because they give you a free hotel if your layover is longer than 8 hours! We stayed at this amazing Raffles Hotel in Dubai for the night. It was so funny because we actually ate dinner at P.F. Changs that night. Dubai is one of the most unique places we have ever been! We went to the mall so that we could go see the Burj Khalifa and in that mall was every single American store/restaurant/bakery/etc that you could think of. I got a cupcake from the Hummingbird Bakery! The Burj Khalifa was crazy! It was too late at night for us to go up in it but still cool to see all lit up. Alcohol isn’t served in the restaurants in Dubai so we had cocktails and sesame chicken at the P.F. Changs. Hilarious and delicious.

The next morning we flew to the Maldives! We first had to fly to the capital of Mala and then take a sea plane to our individual island. One of the crazy things about the Maldives is each resort has it’s own island! We first stayed at Niyama and then at the One & Only Reethi Rah. If you ever get a chance to go to the Maldives (for your honeymoon or a once in a lifetime vacation) DO IT! It was so gorgeous. The photos don’t do it justice. I wish we had better quality phones back then! We brought a real camera but the iPhone cameras were good enough and just more convenient so that’s what we used most of the time. The Maldives are so far and so hard to get to so definitely try to go before you have kids…BUT I will say that it was super family friendly! I can’t imagine going that far with a baby and toddler…but maybe one day! A highlight at Niyama was the underwater restaurant! A highlight at O&O was the nightly dinner buffet they had with a different country’s food each night. We would definitely go back to each of these resorts! It would also be fun to try a new one so that we could visit different islands.

Please excuse all poorly edited and filtered photos. 2013 was still the day of filtering your photos! Oh well!
